Drupal 7 extended support
Commercial / interim protection as a bridge — not a permanent substitute for migration.
Drupal 7 migration is a rebuild on modern core — not update.php. I map your modules and content, migrate with the Migrate API, rebuild the theme in Twig, and keep URLs so rankings survive — fixed price after a free assessment.
Why migrate
Drupal 7 reached community end of life on 5 January 2025. Sites still on D7 need a destination: supported Drupal 10/11, interim hardening, or commercial extended support as a bridge. Most long-term plans are a Drupal 7 migration onto modern core.
People use “migration” and “upgrade” interchangeably in search. Technically they are different. A Drupal 7 → 7.xx patch is an update. A Drupal 7 → 10/11 move is a migration: new codebase, new theme engine, new module APIs, content and users carried across deliberately.
If you are still clarifying risk and options, start with Drupal 7 end of life. If you already know you must move, this page is the project shape — and Drupal 11 is the recommended landing target for work starting in 2026.
Architecture
Drupal 8 rebuilt the platform on Symfony components, configuration management, and Twig. Everything since builds on that foundation. Custom Drupal 7 modules written as procedural hooks often need services and updated APIs. PHPTemplate themes do not port. Many contrib projects have modern successors — others were abandoned and need alternatives.
Content is the asset worth protecting. Nodes, users, taxonomy, files, and most field data can move through migration pipelines that we run repeatedly on staging until counts and relationships look right. The front end and custom business logic are where timeline and budget live.
Hosting usually moves too. Drupal 7 often sits on old PHP; Drupal 10/11 want current PHP 8.x. Pair the migration with a hosting-aware PHP upgrade so you do not fix core and still fail the runtime.
Process
The first paid deliverable for larger sites is the written audit and fixed-price statement of work. Discovering unknown custom modules mid-build is the classic overrun — we surface that early.
Alternatives
Commercial / interim protection as a bridge — not a permanent substitute for migration.
Sequence inventory, risk, and budget before a migration quote.
Reduce exposure while the migration is scoped and funded.

Page count alone is a weak predictor. A 2,000-node brochure site with clean fields can be simpler than a 200-node site with custom checkout, SSO, and five abandoned contrib modules. Custom code depth, editorial workflows, multilingual structure, and “nobody has the theme repo” drive cost.
Fixed price means we agree scope after the assessment — not open-ended hourly drift. If new requirements appear mid-project, we change the statement of work deliberately instead of silently expanding.
Questions
No. D7 → 10/11 is a new site plus content migration. There is no in-place upgrade path.
Yes. No forced hop through 8 or 9. See also Drupal 11 migration.
Not if redirects and metadata are planned. URL mapping is part of the project, not an afterthought.
Extended support can bridge compliance calendars. It does not modernise the stack. See Drupal 7 extended support.
